How We Make Audio Simpler
Choosing hi-fi gear shouldn’t require guesswork. We combine verified specifications, calculated power requirements, and structured sound scoring to create clear, comparable product profiles.
Our pairing engine estimates real-world headroom based on impedance, sensitivity, and amplifier output, helping you understand not just if something works, but how well it works.
Sound profiles are quantified using a -5 to +5 trait system, making tonal and technical differences transparent and comparable.
Every ranking and pairing study is built on the same consistent methodology, which you can review in full.
FAQs
How do you calculate if an amp can drive a headphone?
We estimate required power based on impedance and sensitivity, targeting realistic peak listening levels with safe headroom. Amplifier output specifications are then compared against those requirements to determine whether a pairing is optimal, borderline, or insufficient.
What does the -5 to +5 sound score mean?
Our sound profile system quantifies traits such as bass quantity, mid-forwardness, treble brightness, and soundstage on a relative scale.
0 represents neutral.
Positive values indicate emphasis.
Negative values indicate reduced presence.
This allows meaningful comparisons between products.
Are these full subjective reviews?
Not always. Many product profiles are data-driven and based on structured consensus analysis. When we conduct hands-on testing, we clearly mark the profile as field-tested. If we get our hands on specific products, we will add a section to the review page that shows our own personal thoughts about the product.
Is this site beginner-friendly?
Yes. We aim to make hi-fi accessible. Technical terms are explained in our glossary, and every product profile includes simplified summaries alongside detailed data.
Do you use affiliate links?
We may include affiliate links to support the project. However, rankings and pairing conclusions are based on data and methodology and pure personal opinion, not commission structures.
